Balancing School and Dance Education
For young talents pursuing a career in dance, it is important to complete their academic education with a high school diploma, the German Abitur. This Abitur is their entry ticket to study and work after their dance career!
The Munich International Ballet School cooperates with the organisation Sport trifft Kunst e.V., enabling the young dancers to attain their Abitur during their dance education.
Pedagogical education of the first dance steps is especially important in the beginnings of learning and should take place with a teacher who is not only an excellent dancer, but who can also access the world of children. This is especially valued at the MIBS.
Professional Sport – Highest Education
A professional education in dance demands huge dedication from the young dancers. Given the necessary amount of time invested in training, it is challenging to meet scholastic demands. It is our aim to ensure that the young dancers needn’t sacrifice their academic education during their dance training. The Abitur, the highest German school degree, is the basis upon which a wide range of future job possibilities with lucrative financial compensation stands. It builds the foundation for being accepted to study at any university in the EU, or a successful entry into a private or state business. Additionally, the educational programme leading to the Abitur offers its students a solid and wide range of knowledge in science and culture.
The Munich International Ballet School helps these young students on this dual path, so that they can achieve a high standard school degree – the Abitur – at the same time as their professional dance education. A team of highly qualified members of staff teaches and individually supports the students on their way in order to successfully complete the German Abitur.
The Abitur is completed in a distance learning course, accompanied by private teachers. The duration of the course depends on the type of school degree achieved by the student so far: Duration after degree from Hauptschule: 3.5 years; Duration after degree from middle school or Gymnasium: 2.5 years.
Abitur Final Exam Subjects – Variety of Options
The students choose eight subjects for their final exams from a wide range of options. In order to reach their goal quickly and efficiently, these can already be chosen at the beginning of the courses. Alternatively, they can first take their time to orientate themselves and discover their strengths and weaknesses.
